I think the first question to everyone is:

To me,

IMO, there's three, or maybe four categories for racing bicycles

First, we have the Post Vintage bicycles
That's where all early bicycle started

Then, there's Vintage bicycles,
where bicycles were made to race
That's when the early stick shifters were invented

Follow by the Classic bicycles,
The derailleur were used with shifters located on the down tube
These bicycles are reliable and are fit for everyday rides and even competitive racing

Lastly, Modern Classic bicycles are able to fit or fitted with modern components that integrates materials such as carbon fiber and titanium etc.

Hope that helps!

If crappy old steel bicycles are "vintage" to them
Then, the public thinks we're riding crappy bicycles every weekend!

That figures!

No wonder I have people looking at me with c while riding my 1940's Italian steel

Think, it's time to educate the public

Blunt, and to the point. Vintage is anything older than mid 80's. Classic on the other hand is a Beautiful design no matter if it is 100 hundred years old or 1 day old. That is my opinion. I am looking forward to replies.

I got a 1988 Десна (Desna) from a garage here in Russia and I'm restoring it. Would this fit the vintage category?
